  1. I know there are some Lewis and Clark lovers out there (*wink wink* mrsmerilew) so I thought I would share this graphic novel with you peeps (if you haven’t checked it out already)! It is an awesome comic by Nick Bertozzi about the expedition; really fun, a little sad, but still very great! It’s a fast read at 144 pages, but it’s got wonderful brush pen work. A nice introduction to get anyone interested in learning more about Lewis and Clark.
There’s no chasing-bear-with-underwear or eating-dick-shaped-plant scenes in it like my comic suggests, but there is a hardy Clark and a neurotic Lewis getting sick…getting angry…getting shot in the butt scenes, ya know, fun stuff like that. Enjoy!

  2. Here is a Napoleon for Miss oneangrypixie! I regret there is no Josephine though :[ But that just leaves options for the future!
I have really wanted to do something with Jacques Louis David for a while now; he’s one of my favorite artists and artists’ obsessions are sometimes quite amusing. Like David’s fascination with Napoleon’s “classically structured” face. Hear, hear, this artist certainly agrees; young Napoleon’s portraits are pretty rawr

  3. These were supposed to go with the other one, but I ended up having to split it in half because it would have been a file the size of Godzilla @.@

  4. Oh man, I think it is about time I ended this unexpected hiatus. Real Life has an annoying tendency to get in the way of more important things like drawing silly pictures and lounging around. Anyway, things are getting done and suddenly I have time!
And then I make something stupid like this

  5. I cannot get enough of John Paul Jones. I think I’m developing another history crush. Well you can never have too many!

This is actually based on a real incident. HMS Drake was pretty much a sitting duck when Jones came across it. The plan was to come around her bow, grapple on, and then board her; one of the key parts of the plan was dropping anchor at PRECISELY the right moment. But, the mate in charge of the anchor was drunk, dropped it late, and Jones’s ship sailed right past! This kind of unlucky incident seemed to happen a lot to him; I hate to admit it, but it gets a bit funny after a while.

  6. Have some more completely innaccurate accurate Jefferson for 4th of July :]
Spotlight is also on Jean-Antoine Houdon this time, an absolutely amazing neoclassical sculptor famous for doing…famous people. As I understand it, his methods consisted mostly of “sketches” in terracotta and taking life models and masks, but I am sure like all artists he had to do the occasional preliminary sketch or two ;]

  7. I swear, out of all the presidents, Andrew Jackson has the most fab hair. It’s the first thing I notice when I pull out a 20 dollar bill or maybe I am just odd like that
I’m sure John Quincy Adams secretly wanted Andrew Jackson’s hair as well; JUST LOOK AT THAT FLOWING MANE

  8. And you can see Hamilton’s very real powder horn right here complete with unicorn!
I’ve had this comic planned out ever since I saw foundingfatherfest put the image up but new Jefferson ideas kept edging it out (oh Jefferson you are taking over my mind, it’s because I’m reading a book about you now isn’t it)

  9. Part II of Little Men In Jefferson’s Pocket although how little Hammy got there, I leave up to you.

  10. Thought I might as well put this sketchbook doodle up too. I like John Paul Jones! (and Led Zeppelin’s Jones too puaha) He was a BAMF; when the British asked him to strike his ship’s colors, he probably didn’t say the famous “I have not yet begun to fight!,” but he did say “I may sink, but I’ll be damned if I strike” which is just as badass. But he was pretty vain and his ego was probably the size of his ship. Two ships. A fleet.
